Melissa Franklin, RN, MSN, CPNP-PC/AC

I was born in Irving, TX and have always lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. My love for nursing and taking care of people started at an early age. As a junior in high school, I shadowed many different healthcare professionals and my dream became to be a nurse. My first job in the medical field was as a nursing assistant at Baylor Irving on the cardiac unit. I worked at Baylor and also at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas while attending nursing school at The University of Texas at Arlington. It was then that I knew I wanted to work with children for the rest of my life.

In 2004, I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from UTA. I worked as a RN at Cook Children’s Medical Center Level IV Neonatal ICU for 8 ½ years. I loved every minute of taking care of the most fragile babies and teaching families. I then earned a Masters in Nursing and became a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in primary care. I completed a post-masters degree and certified in acute care before starting in 2013 as a primary care provider at JPS school based clinic in Arlington, TX. Now in 2018, I am so excited to be a part of a thriving private practice in Decatur. I am a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and also serve as faculty at the University of Texas College of Nursing and Health Innovation. I have a passion for serving children in my community through nursing and education. It is a pleasure to see your children and watch them grow.

I am married and have 3 children. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family on the beach, by the pool, or anywhere outside. I love to cook, garden, and learn new things.
